There’s an episode of my favourite TV show, Mad Men, where the advertising lads come up with a bra campaign stating that every woman is either a Marilyn Monroe or a Jackie O. The message was are you bold, sexy and adventurous, or are you elegant, polished and chic?

Miss KATE HUDSON tried this look a week or so back at the Golden Globes, and I wasn’t compleeeetely sold on it, (a lot of you lot were, though, which certainly counts) but oh, be still my thumping foot, Miss RIHANNA’s take on Frosty the Snowminx icy eyes at the Grammy awards has me smitten.

I flirt with the idea of getting a tattoo every few weeks, but will probably never act. Miss MARIEKE HARDY, one of my favourite scribes, wrote an excellent piece on the trend of literary tattoos in the herald the other day, which are definitely the ‘00s version of the butterfly on the ankle or the Chinese symbol on the lower back, but aside of all those 18 year-old boys getting 72 point font ‘This Too Will Pass’ or Live and Let Live’ across their backs, I think delicately imprinting words that resonate or propel you through life (or that you simply love) are probably the most elegant option when it comes to ink. Just ask inked celebrities like Miss RIHANNA, who just had ‘Never A Failure, Always A Lesson’ stamped on her collarbone - backwards - so she could read it in the mirror. (Why she chose to capitalise each letter baffles me. Surely if you’re getting a permanent sentence on your skin, you’d ensure your grammar was perfect. Wouldn’t you agree, Miss HAYDEN PANETTIERE?)... more

Ah, Dior. Injecting some much-needed elegance and glamour to a season that has very much relied on either A) bare and casual and natural, or B) vibrant and playful. All red lips and Veronica Lake curls and deep-side parts and shades of film noir mistresses, the Christian Dior ss10 beauty look is by no means original, but oh, isn’t it beautiful.... more

Oh, how we LOVE when the famous people come out to play at Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week. Sometimes it’s at the actual shows, posing and pouting front row, sometimes it’s backstage or around Bryant Park and sometimes it’s off site at special fashiony parties. Like the Fashion’s Night Out one, created by one Anna Wintour, and celebrated all over the world at important fashion locations. (Surprisingly Big W didn’t make the cut.)... more

Since she stomped onto the scene in 2007 with her platinum crop and ivory skin and Bic lighter-blue eyes, Agyness Deyn has become one of Those Girls who we look to for fashion and beauty trends, even though we sometimes forget that she is paid for her looks and figure and that to emulate her look when we are five foot jack and with olive skin and black long hair won’t always come off. However. In her first big public outing for some time, Aggy has a new mop and a fetching new lipstick preference, and it’s got me all pumped because we can all do this one. Yeah, no, really.... more

In the last week, I have seen photos of three very prominent female celebrities with cold sores. They are: Rihanna, Katie Holmes and Paris Hilton. Now, the first thought that goes through my head when I see this, is FOR GOD’S SAKE GET THAT THING AWAY! I’m kidding. They are of course, human. And probably highly-stressed. So it makes sense their bodies are showing physical signs of fatigue. (Especially Paris having to find a new terry towelling hoodie every day. What? YOU try it! Hard! Expensive! Energy-consuming!)... more

Oh, I do love a red carpet. On one hand it means I can drink red wine and eat tomato sauce with reckless abandon, on the other, it means celebrity types gussy up into their finest, most weavtastical versions of themselves and put themselves out there for commentary. Splendid.... more

Some reasons why I chose to do this, and why spray on foundation is awesome: It takes two seconds to apply. It’s flawless. It covers tattoos. It covers veins. It covers bruises. It covers scarring and burns. It conceals rosacea. It’s used backstage at a LOT of shows, and not just on the mug. It’s water based. It’s long last. It’s light-diffusing. It’s recommended for post-surgery patients, and newly-healing skin. It’s perfect for Botox and collagen injection bruising. It makes scones and jam for afternoon tea.... more

Stephy Rice showed off a rather large Olympic-ring based tattoo on her arm at the Nickelodeon Australian Kids Awards on the weekend. I’ve texted Ricey ("hey babe, luv ur tat - izit real? totes hot!! :) xx") to ask if it’s real or not, but until she writes back, we won’t know. But we can assume it is for the sake of an interesting post, can’t we? ... more
