The spring shows seems to be very much about polar opposites. For every bright cobalt blue ruffled mini or canary yellow swimsuit sashaying down the runway there’ll be a muted beige shift dress and loose-fitting nude jacket. Ditto with the makeup. And at Burberry, we were very much back in nude territory.... more

Nudes, naturals and beige have been overwhelmingly present at both New York and London spring/summer 09 collections. Both in the fashion, and the beauty. (They’re inseparable, those two.) Makeup artist tricks are generally the best and most cleverest of them all. Which is why when I hear them, I like to pass them on. Immediately. And sometimes, sometimes I don’t even thieve the credit for them! (But this one I will, because I read the tip in an American magazine, and didn’t write down the makeup artist’s name. Bobbi Brown is (most) famous for two things. 1. Mastering nude/natural makeup and 2. Creating desirable limited edition makeup palettes that sell out before you can say: ”Sold out? What do you MEAN sold out? But I NEED a trio of beigey, browny, barely there, buff, bare lip glosses! You will NOT deprive me of this! I will call the Karrinyup David Jones and you will EAT YOUR WORDS, lady.”... more
