A non-drying, anti-aging lipstick in sweet musky pink:…

It is no secret that I am quite fond of a musky pink lip. (Unless you work for the Nude Lip Society, in which case it definitely is. You guys are maniacs! You slash my tyres if you catch me wearing anything but your gear!) And I found one last week (or rather, it found me) that I gotta tell you about. ... more

Two ladies; two styles of red lip: Which do you like…

There is a huge spectrum of Red Lip, ranging from gently-bitten stains through to full, rich, vibrant, fire engine red lipsticks, and with lots of red glosses and mattes and so on in between. Right now, and especially when I was on holiday (Oh, did I mention I went to Greece? Only 257 times? Oh, so I did. Carry on) I am doing the long-last red liquid lipstick (Revlon Colorstay Liquid Lipstick in Tomato) with several kilos of bronzer (either CoverGirl, Clinique, Lancome or La Prairie. Yeah, uh, I’m a little greedy when it comes to bronzers right now. But they’re all different! Give different looks and effects!)... more

UPDATED: WIN! … that fun liquid lipstick you…

The Revlon ColorStay Ultimate Liquid Lipstick? Jen Connelly’s lipstick of choice? Course you do - it’s long last, high-pigment colour with no revolting dry lips or grosso corner bits. Brilliant. And especially enticing since it’s free. Which it is, because this is a giveaway, which be definition means we are giving it away. Think of this as a kind of teaser for our VIP club: You get brand new product that isn’t on shelves yet, or has just landed, and you try it out for us, and then tell us about it.... more

Agyness Deyn proves wearability of berry lips. (Ignore…

Since she stomped onto the scene in 2007 with her platinum crop and ivory skin and Bic lighter-blue eyes, Agyness Deyn has become one of Those Girls who we look to for fashion and beauty trends, even though we sometimes forget that she is paid for her looks and figure and that to emulate her look when we are five foot jack and with olive skin and black long hair won’t always come off. However. In her first big public outing for some time, Aggy has a new mop and a fetching new lipstick preference, and it’s got me all pumped because we can all do this one. Yeah, no, really.... more

How to: Do Mad Men makeup

I know. Like a monkey with a drum. But I promise this is the lasf you’ll hear of Mad Men for a while. Okay, okay, the last you’ll hear of Mad Men for a while. But as the first episode of series one is on SBS tonight at 8.30, I felt it would be remiss of me not to give you one last gentle push into the rollers and red lips of 1961 to celebrate.

The mad woman returns just in time for Mad Men

“Hi!” (American slang for “hello.") After two weeks of serious key-thumping for serious book deadline I am back and quite serious about beauty again. And BOY am I excited about this week. For this week, as well as being all short and sexy like Selma Blair hair, is the week MAD MEN starts on free-to-air TV. (Thursday night, 8.30pm, SBS).

This is a big big big deal for the following reasons, of which I will elaborate with small asterisks so as to give it the formality it deserves:... more

New Year Beauty Resolutions, Part 1.

Ditch the booze. Start Bikram Yoga. Get my submarine license. Stop doing burnouts in the car park. Sell the Hummerzine and buy a street luge. Return that email Angelina Jolie sent… These are some of my non-beauty new year resolutions. As you can see, some of them border on ridiculous, I mean when will I get time to email Angelina? My beauty resolutions on the other hand, are a lot more achievable…... more

Red lips, centre parts and the same old shi….…

I’m sorry, I know I should be the one geeing everyone up about all of the amazing trends exploding from the Spring shows, but after only one day at the shows over here in Paris, in my stripy top and beret, chomping on a bread stick, I have to say COME ON, HAIR AND MAKEUP TYPES. Yes, it has been only one day, but I already kind of have a bit of a hint as to what we’ll be seeing here… just like what we saw in NY… and London… and Milan: Centre parts. “Nude” makeup. Red lips. Backcombing. Slicked back hair. Of course, there is nothing wrong with any of these (The Big Five, we’ll call them) we’d just like a bit of a shake up, you know? Maybe some curls? Some lilac lips? A new part?

Poppy King is a King, but also a (Lipstick) Queen.

Poppy King was THE lipstick queen in the late 90s. I personally had three pots of her Shine lip gloss going, and so did every girl I knew. After a stint working with Prescriptives in New York, Poppy is back with her new collection, Lipstick Queen (it wasn’t accidental that I referred to her as this exact thing in the precious sentence). Lipstick Queen “popped” up in Kit Stores nationally yesterday, so to toast Poppy’s triumphant return, I interviewed her, so that all of you out there who missed her amazing products the first time around, can get to know a bit about her, her products, and how to wear a modern red lip. (Hint: It’s not with green eye shadow.) ... more
