Where I send people who ask me where to go for spa treatments in Sydney
- Category:
- Salons, spas, services: Sweeeeet.
Man, do I get asked this a lot. Almost as much as I am asked, ‘Is that Aston Martin yours?’, or ‘Do you find ferrets to be better pets than pythons?’ In fact, a friend asked me just Friday where he should send his mum for her birthday. Amazingly, even after five years in beauty I still falter when asked this. Oh, Sydney has some glorious salons, sure, but when it comes to blow-you-away-spas or destination spas, we could certainly lift our game. Anyway, following is my pool of answers when asked where I recommend for a gift voucher for someone’s present, or where a frisky young bride and groom to be can go, or where you can take your mum when you want to treat her because she sewed some shoulder pads into your blazer so that it looks all Balmain like.
A Comfort Zone facial at the Park Hyatt 02 9256 1633
Not cheap (but then, the best treatments never are) at $140 but the hydramemory facial is one of the most inspired, delicious facials you can have, by (new to Australia) Italian skin care brand, Comfort Zone. (If you can, buy their tranquility candle. ZOMG.) Your feet and hands get loved as much as your face, and there is even some cool yoga-dancey-arm moves thrown in, too. Aside of that, your skin looks exceptional and your feel utterly stoned as you leave the salon. Superb.
Best for: Well-travelled types. Zen types. Spa aficionados. Newest-latest-best types. Your mum.

A BABORganic facial at Sensana spa 02 9233 4888
A hidden gem in the middle of the CDB, Sensana is small but you feel like you’re in a Thai resort with all the lighting and dark wood. It’s amazing how cosy and plush it is in here. The BABORganic Facial is $140 for 90 minutes and the perfect everyone-will-enjoy-and-benefit-from-it facial. Body scrubs and spas are also advised - unlike many spas/salons you never feel cold and icky mid-way through the treatment at Sensana.
Best for: Spa virgins. Couples or pairs. Organic-lovers. City folk. Girlfriends. Mum.
The Four Hands massage at Venustus in Paddington 02 9361 4014
Again, not cheap, (not even pretending to be) at $220 for one hour, but have you ever had the unique pleasure of two women working in perfect synchronicity on your body at the same time? (If you are a single male, maybe don’t answer that.) And really, you’re getting two therapists so the price should be higher. But trust me when I say this is the present that never fails to impress. Also, the scents of Jeannie Bourke’s (the owner) products.... unbeatable. Tahiti in a bottle. Holiday in a jar. Sexyness in glass. And so on.
Best for: Special birthday presents. Men buying for their ladies. Men. Spa aficionados. Massage snobs. Your BFF.

A (nudie) spa and massage at Body Inc bath house 02 9356 3477
FINALLY, the beloved Ginseng/Korean bathhouse in Kings Cross has re-opened and with a $10 million face lift. And it looks incredible. The prices, though have barely changed. You can have entry to the spa house (including the ginseng baths) a body scrub and an oil massage all for $95. Upgrade to private rooms for facials and a mountain of other treatments. Excellent for couple treatment rooms and groups. (Keep in mind if you enter the ginseng bath area, you do it without your kit on.)
Best for: Spa frequenters and lovers. Hens nights. Couples. Exhibitionists. Less expensive gifts.
I’m sure I’m forgetting heaps. Will sleep on it and add more as they slink into my mind… Of course, if you have a suggestion, or have been somewhere unreal, please share.
In the meantime, go play in our enormous PRIMPED Salon and Services directory - lots and lots of spas and salons in there. (And if you’re not in there, contact us! You should be! Dude!)

Ooops, forgot to say I’m from Perth and was just wondering because of your “Perth girl guest blogger” comment below.

Hi Zoe,
I’m about a month late but what would becoming a guest blogger entail? Thank you!

In NSW I can definitely recommend Nectar Day Spa in Campbelltown. I travel an hour to get there and it is so worth it.Check out their website and you will see what I mean. They won Australian Spa of the Year a couple of years ago and they are probably one of the largest spas I’ve been to with so many amazing staff. The massages are to die for. I recommend the Bamboo Awakening!

For a divine facial treat in the Shire (Sydney), I can’t go past the Prescriptive Sothys Facial at ‘Escape for Your Wellbeing’. Products are beautiful & the best part is it includes a foot/ scalp & back massage aswell as an eyebrow shape! I leave looking tidy and feeling totally relaxed
