Two ladies; two styles of red lip: Which do you like best?
- Category:
- What do you think?
There is a huge spectrum of Red Lip, ranging from gently-bitten stains through to full, rich, vibrant, fire engine red lipsticks, and with lots of red glosses and mattes and so on in between. Right now, and especially when I was on holiday (Oh, did I mention I went to Greece? Only 257 times? Oh, so I did. Carry on) I am doing the long-last red liquid lipstick (Revlon Ultimate Colorstay Liquid Lipstick in Tomato) with several kilos of powder bronzer (either Covergirl Clinique, Lancome or La Prairie. Yeah, uh, I’m a little greedy when it comes to bronzers right now. But they’re all different! Give different looks and effects!)
My bronzer/red lip look makes me feel WIDE AWAKE.
And healthy-like.
Anyway, despite what my affirmation calendar says for today, it’s not all about me. I saw photos of two famous birds, both at the The Cinema Society & Hugo Boss Screening of Inglourious Basterds in New York last night, both wearing red lips, and both massively carrying it off, despite their different colouring and, you know, ‘looks.’
And I thought they were both very fetching red lips, and so I thought we should get a bit of a vote as to which is the more popular, and then I can do a How To on the winner, and suggest a swag of products that will get you the same look.
First up, Agyness Deyn, doing a bit of a barefaced, gently flushed/bronzed face with a semi-gloss red lip - I’d say a high pigment red gloss over a lip liner, applied with fingers. Very ‘model.’ Casual enough not to look silly with her t-shirt.

And then there’s Diane Kruger, who’s gone for the full kaPOW red lip - slightly orangey in colour, beautifully lined and then painted on with a lip brush by a makeup artist, and entirely glamorous in general. Excellent combination with the sizzly evening dress.

So. Which do you prefer?

A.D is the day look and D.K is the evening look. I’m not bold enuf for evening red but I get the day red by using a ‘stain’ rather than and actual gloss or lipstick.

I’m all over the bright red lip (go me, lol), but I would love to know how to do the Agy look - it’s so beautifully ‘natural’ looking.

This is a bit random, but I just noticed if you scroll down so you can only see Diane from her nose up, she looks like Mary-Kate.

I’m not a fan of Agyness, but that lip is lovely. Diane’s is just too much. Personally, I’ve never understood the appeal of a in-your-face red lip. I like my lips to looks kissable, not painted on. Agyness’s look kissable.

I agree with you re aggy’s mangled name, theloveofpink, but I think she’s gorgeous and has such a different look. She’s got the best eyes too.

Kruges for sure! I’m so bias. I read somewhere she does all her own make-up and styling. Too craze to be true I think.

This is a tough one, but definately Aggy. Would love to see a how-to vid for the casual/cool red lip she does so well.

I despise Agyness, that stupid wannabe hipster who violated the name Agnes in such an Epponee-Rae manner.. Diane gets my vote for sure! She looks sizzly plus. And she dates Pacey, which gives her bonus adorable points.

Agyness by far. I love it! (Do not love the kaPOW red lip at all ever.)
