Ten reasons I think Sarah Jessica Parker looks incredible in this photo
It was taken a few days back at the 9th Annual Greater New York Human Rights Campaign Gala in, you guessed it, Detroit. No, wait, New York. And I think Miss PARKER looks just luminous. Here’s why:

1. Her ponytail is messy and scruffy and while definitely blow-dried at some point, is that perfect ‘I didn’t do anything more than scrape back my hair and wack an elastic in,’ that I find so hard to pull off without lots of tries and sore arms eventuating.
2. Still on the hair, the height of SJP‘s ponytail is both important and perfect. It is high enough to make sure the curls bouncy frivolously around and give her face some definite lift, but low enough not to look juvenile, or like she was deliberately trying to create one of those facelift ponytails women in their ‘70s sometimes do.
3. The gently smoked eye. It’s concentrated in at the lash line (starting with black liner on the outer and inner rim of the eyes), and the colour is delicately taken up only as high as the actual eyeball, and ever so subtly along the lower lashline. My guess with a thin, soft shadow brush.
4. The colour used in gently smoked eye - it’s that olive, earthy metallic green that keeps popping up at the moment and is therefore An Exciting New Makeup Trend you need to be aware of and play with. Here’s how to do it and some prodz options.
5. The fresh, apricot-coloured cheeks. Please note how they are focused on the fleshiest part of the cheeks, which keeps the look young and radiant, as opposed to if it were sitting up high on the cheekbones and getting all sexy. Most people understand that SJP is the master of cute-meets-sexy, but they don’t attribute enough of that to her hair and makeup. It’s not all cute dresses and novelty purses, you know. It’s cheeks and eyes and ponytails, too.
6. The accessories. Chunky yet feminine, colourful and interesting. Perfect. And, statement earrings as well as a statement necklace! Let us all embrace this textbook accessory no-no, and make it a yes-yes. (Mostly when our hair is up.)
7. The, uh, skin-looking… skin. As in foundation that works to even out, not mask her skin. We can see the texture and tone of her skin with great ease, and it looks pretty bloody healthy, actually. I don’ have an issue with a bit of shine. I think it’s youthful.
8. The opaque dusty pink lips - the perfect complement to her baby smokey eye and girly cheeks. You notice the lips, but you don’t, you know, “notice” the lips. That’s the ideal.
9. Filled-in and brushed up brows. I would maybe encourage a little more thickness, but as far as brows go, they’re definitely not bad. At all.
10. Because I know that the rest of her outfit - a little bit quirky, a little bit cute, feminine, elegant, colourful and utterly effortless - is the perfect companion to her hair and makeup. And she tries to tell us she’s not anything like Carrie Bradshaw… Pfft.

Do you agree she looks rather good here?
Anything you’d change?

Really? Don’t hit me but I think she looks really sloppy and undone. What’s going on with the skin tone on between her chin and her collarbones?

Doesn’t anyone else see the weirdness that is happening on her nose/ cheek area?

Drool SJP. She just oozes sex appeal and sophistication in a quirky kind of way. SJP rocks!

I agree with you Zo. This woman is amazing and a real inspiration to women over 40. I would kill to have her natural style.

I always think she looks amazing and dresses beautifully for both her age & mine (23), which I think is an awesome talent.

I don’t know - her make up is fine, but I reckon she looks kinda skinny and drawn. Has she reached that point when being skinny makes you look older, and you actually need some body fat to fill out your features? I think perhaps she has.

Not a huge fan of the dress, but regarding the IMPORTANT parts, I think her lip colour is eeexcellent and her eyes look beautiful.

I think she looks great! It’s great how the right amount of make-up enhances one’s features. I wish Lady Gaga and Christina Aguilera would take this on board.
