Paris AW ‘10: The beehive is back! So ‘60s and so Mad Men, man.

And of course I don’t need to tell you how much I dig Mad Men, (even though just by saying that I kind of am again.) But ye gads! It was beehives at 10 paces at Rochas, Prada and Giles, too. Add quirky headbands, a high-necked, buttoned up neckline, some groovy specs and we’re set. What a gas!

I love this look. That, for the record, does not mean I think it will proliferate into modern society with great speed and gusto, however if we can at least perform a bit of a nod to the splendour and polish of the ‘60s, that can not be a bad thing, on the contrary, it can be a very very good thing.

Here’s the Prada A/W ‘10 look, all ladylike and classic below, and strong brows and thick headbands and beehives and chignons and wild glasses up top.

It’s hard not to like this, isn’t it. I mean, it doesn’t scream SEXY in invisible caps lock like the Pucci or Gucci shows do, but God it’s cool. (Put it this way, it’s less Joan or Betty and it’s more like one of the perky, bright-lipped, chain-smoking Sterling Cooper secretaries.)

And the Rochas show also threw a few live ones into the hive with this sweet, girly version:

And finally we have Giles, who served up a bit of a futuristic, re-imagined version of the beehive…

I can’t even imagine how long the beehives back in the ‘60s took to create, (I guess I could ask Miss AMY WINEHOUSE but she is terribly unreliable at getting back to me) although this website kindly details the exact step-by-step, as well as offering this pearl of Beehivish wisdom for those considering the hairdo:

Remember, before you decide to try it, that a young, smooth face looks best under the beehive hairstyle. It is severe enough to age the more angular face, and there’s no point in wearing something that’s new if it doesn’t make you look your best.”

Hear that everyone? Wear your old shit if it’s not going to make you look awesome.
