Millionaire Vs Nillionaire: Liquid Mineral Foundation

And what a delightful category blog this is to write. A year ago I wouldn’t have been able to compare two liquid mineral foundations, because there was, uh, like one on the whole market. But slowly slowly the category is growing as cosmetic companies realise that some people will always A) Spill powder makeup, B) Find it fiddly, C) Just always prefer liquid makeup and that’s all there is to it, and no matter how wonderful powder mineral makeup they wish people like me would STOP TRYING TO CHANGE MAKEUP PATTERNS THAT WERE CREATED WHEN THEY WERE 13 THAT WORK JUST FINE AND DO NOT NEED CHANGING THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

Now, it’s no secret that Yas and I have been fans of Australian mineral makeup brand ELES’ liquid mineral makeup for a long time, but I thought it was my job as a super massively cutting edge journalist to alert you to some of the new options. Because they’re fricken awesome.

MILLIONAIRE:  Estee Lauder Nutritious Vita-Mineral Liquid SPF 10 Makeup, $66

Good things: This brand new baby is beautiful to look at and hold. Real elegant like. Excellent little tube. Unbreakable and hygienic. SPF 10. Lots of product in said tube; very little needed. Spreads with ease and very nice to build up, which you may want to do as the finish - if you apply the small amount recommend for General Foundation Use (remember, we use foundation to even out skin tone, not create a mask) Lovely semi-luminous finish without being shiny) the finish is pretty sheer. But this is the beauty of mineral makeup: you don’t feel guilty applying more layers because the minerals and antioxidants in this case - helloooo Pomegranate - are actually feeding rather than clogging your skin. I personally am a massive fan of the Nutritious Lauder line - it’s perfect for birds in their twenties who want the big time hydration and the protection of antioxidants, without all the super sciencey anti-aging gear.

Be mindful that: If you are a mineral makeup lover because you like to glow, which is the effect usually created by the powder minerals, this might not give you the sheen you’re after. If, however you want a mineral makeup as a kind if next step of skincare as well as a light, fresh coverage that lasts exceptionally well and feel very all silky and looks very smooth - this is for you.

NILLIONAIRE: Maybelline New York Mineral Power Liquid Mineral Foundation, $19.95

Good things: The first mass market liquid mineral far from disappoints. It’s been out since Feburary and since then I must have sent at least ten friends to go pick some up at Priceline. It’s an impressive little beast, like all liquid mineral makeup it’s sans additives or fillers which means that you can pop it on at 6am and remove it the following 6am without too much guilt. But I of course do not recommend that. Feral. I mean, technically you could eat McDonalds for a month but you wouldn’t necessarily do it would you?! Whats that? Someone did do it? Oh. Pardon me. Carry on. The finish is still light and fresh, however it is more of a powdery, semi-matte finish than Nutritious. The formula is a little thicker. Better for those wanting to cover imperfections.

Be mindful that: There is a reason mineral makeup is generally quite expensive - as with any makeup or skincare, there is a spectrum of quality in the minerals going into the makeup - but for 20 bones I’d have to say this is a sterling entry into mineral makeup for those who hate the idea of powder, or who have been wanting to get on board. Great for oilier skins too, as the finish isn’t so dewy.

Oh I love the ELES foundation! I haven’t used their sheer tint foundation tho (only the liquid powder foundation) - has anyone used that? Any good?

Zoe, how do you feel the rest of Eles’s mineral line stacks up against its foundations?

They’re completely different. There are two ELES liquid mineral foundations: one is a very sheer tint while one has a lovely, thick, powdery finish. The Estee Lauder version is more like a traditional lightweight liquid foundation in texture and finish.

How does the Estee Lauder compare to Eles?

I ‘ve been using ELES liquid mineral foundation for a while and I love it! A little while ago I decided to give the maybelline one a try, but I have to say it ain’t got nothing on ELES! I lasted about 3 days. I found that the texture, coverage and colour were lacking in quality.
