First Look: Fendi’s fresh, twisted, messy little updo

I love love loved the Fendi show. The shoes, I must own. The hair, I must learn. When you look at this updo, you smugly think to yourself, ‘ Huh. That is SO obvious and SO easy, any fool with access to a few bobby pins could do this.’ And maybe you’re right to be smug. Cause it sure does look simple. But as we know, it’s usually the most ‘undone’ looks that are the most time-consuming and frustrating to create. (There’s a reason Beyonce, Gaga, Tyra etc all wigs. They know.)

Here is Jessica Stam, showing that catwalk how it is best walked and spun and posed on in her Fendi finery and fun updo:

And here is the First Face for Fendi, lil’ Abbey Lee, and a string of other models showing the versatility of this updo. (See what I mean about the shoes? Oh, Karl. You wretched devil of accessory temptation!)

What appears to have happened, is that after being blow-dried with lots of mousse and big round brushes for volume and nice, flicky straight-ish ends and lots of texture and lift, the hair was finger-scraped up into a messy bun right on the top of the head, a little top knot right near the forehead, on a slightly off-centre angle. From here I think it would have been coiled and twisted around messily and pinned so that there was a fair amount of length coming off at the end, which was then styled into a kind of makeshift fringe, coming down over the face. This, if you have long, layered hair, might be enough. And for us Real Life non Runway Types, this will, I think, achieve the basic look.

However, I think some of the models would have had small, bespoke fringe extensions clipped in so that they had a kind of fringe covering one of their eyes. Cheats, I know.

I also think it’s worth mentioning that sexy nudey-browny-smudgy eye makeup. Why? Because it is absolutely, definitely one of the Massively Important Top Five Makeup Trends for spring/summer 2010, is why. It’s dingin’ everywhere! Like at Burberry! Like at Pucci! Like at Proenza Schouler!

Le point: Get that nudey-earthy-brown palette out. Like your new Bobbi Brown new season nude palette if you were lucky enough to snaffle either before they sold out. (There MAY be some left… I advise you call and find out: 1800 061 326). Oooh, harsh. Sorry. But you need to learn that seasonal shadow palettes WILL sell out. (FYI The Bobbi Earth Metal Lip & Eye Palette goes on counter NOVEMBER 1ST.)

Here are some palettes that are definitely excellent and won’t be sold out: Becca Avalon palette, Benefit Big Beautiful Eyes palette, and the L’Oreal Paris’ Made For Me Naturals palette or finally, if you want to go a little darker and sexy-sexy use one brown shadow and integrate into a SERIOUS smoky eye look, like the one you will find lurking within the very cool, bareMinerals Rocker Eye Kit, $90, which comes with so much instruction, you may not need to visit PRIMPED for a day or two. HAHA! As if you’d do that.

Love a topknot any day of the week. Also would like to rub in that I did manage to get my hands on a Bobbi Brown Nude Palette. Cheeky.
