Celebrities look stupid after spray tans, too.

I love myself sick after getting a solid spray of self-tanner, but I do NOT love the inconvenience that accompanies such activity. Like the wear black rule. Like the no bra rule. Like the have no plans rule. Like the wear pajamas to bed even if it’s 32 degrees, rule. Like the avoid male company because you smell like a rotting potato skin, rule.

And so when I saw this photo of Miss JENNIFER LOVE HEWITT clearly on her way home after a serious dose of St Tropez in spray gun form, I thought, ‘I feel you, sister. Stick in there - tomorrow morning it will be all worth it.’ Please note the fact she has popped some illuminating blush on her cheeks, which is an inspired move. Injects some life and colour back into (one very, very brown) canvas. (I usually pop on a bright gloss, too if God forbid, I have to roam the streets/face the General Public with a fresh spray.)

But it’s not just enough to just shower off the excess tan the morning after. No way, man.

You need to DOUBLE the moisturiser you normally use if you have had a spray tan. Go for a richly scented body butter (like the Body Shop Monoi Body Butter, Palmer’s Coconut Body Butter or Kiehl’s Gardenia scented body lotion) which will act as a Tricky Cat: dual purpose, double efficiency, scent masking and super hydrating.

Same goes for your face, would you believe. Don’t be tricked into thinking that DHA isn’t drying out your face, too. Either bring in a super hydrating serum before your face cream, or crack out a more luxurious, more nourishing face cream that is still ‘light’ enough not to overwhelm your skin. Simple has one: Kind To Skin Replenishing Rich Moisturiser which, as its name suggests, replenishes the skin, and if you’ve had a mist of spray tan all over your mug, that’s exactly what your skin needs.

What are your post spray tan tricks?

Thank you Sarah! I already go to a great place that does tuscan tan and I’m happy with it, but I really want to try a fake bake spray - I get such a delicious brown colour when i DIY-fake-bake.

theloveofpink, I highly recommend Classic Beauty in Toorak Rd, Toorak. They use Tuscan Tan which I actually prefer to St Tropez, it gives you a lovely golden glow

No tricks, but I notice JLH has a french manicure… makes me sad.
Also, on the topic of tanning - if tanning the face (i’ve never had a professional spray), should we put it under our eyes/on our eyelids?

When I was a serial spray-tanner, I also avoided any oil-based moisturisers, just like they advise pre-tan. I always, always stuck to water-based moisturisers. And SLS-free body washes. And a no-sexy-time 12 hour rule post-spray. God, those sprays used to rule my life.

Yaz and I either have Mobile Spray Tanning’s Amanda Fraser come in, or I head to YM, (Fake Bake) or Ciao Bella or 54 Park St (my ol’ haunt from ACP days) for St Tropez.

Bea, absolutely. Powder blush is a must. I reckon JLH is wearing mineral by the looks of it - best possible choice.
