Ever thought about being a makeup artist?

So, last year I came up with this idea. Let’s find a makeup artist and celebrate them for loving makeup and being really quite excellent at applying it. Why should chefs and fashion designers and models and singers and dancers and apprentices get all the talent search glory! Where is the fanfare for the makeup brush wielding folk who work so hard to make themselves and others look and feel beautiful! I’ll tell you where. RIGHT HERE.
It’s called The Boss of Gloss, and it even has a cool little logo. See?

Now, Estee Lauder have graciously come on board to support us with our inaugural Boss of Gloss, which was MAGNIFICENT news, because it meant that we could incorporate their delicious latest limited edition designer makeup collection into the competition and prize.
Did you catch that word, “latest”?
That means this isn’t the first one, and it isn’t: their last designer collaboration was ludicrously popular, (as in sell out immediately) and involved a man called Tom Ford, whom you may have heard of. (He did two, AzurÄ“e Soleil and Amber Nude, and within each there were products - especially scents - that I have never been able to find again, and have left a big place in my heart with their absence.)
This time, they have elegantly shuffled one Micheal Kors into their cosmetic making palace, and together they have created the Michael Kors Very Hollywood colour collection. (Yes, there is a fragrance of the same name. It is delicious.) It went on sale yesterday, and I’ve seen a few of you Tweet and comment about how excited you were to get your little mitts on it. (My pick? The ‘Hollywood’ lip gloss from the Bel-Air Beige collection. Could just be the Perfect Nude Lip Gloss.) It will sell its pantaloons off. This is super wearble, luxe makeup that will make your friends all jealous and your face all glorious.
There are two looks, and both are SO, MASSIVELY, ON, TREND, I had to sit on my hands when I first saw them, because it was just after the ss ‘10 shows, which were all about A) gorgeous nude and neutral makeup and A) Punchy little pops of bright pink and magenta, and I was moderately excited, if by ‘moderately’ you mean ‘hyperventilatingly.’
Here’s the first one, Bel-Air Beige. Mmm, so chic… so flattering.... so timeless…

And the second, Rodeo Pink. Fun! Cute! HAWT.

Showing you these colour collections is relevant because: To enter the competition, and win the chance to be our first Boss of Gloss, and score a couple thousand bucks worth of beautiful Estee Lauder makeup and you get to star in a stack of PRIMPED How To videos (think of it as a professional video CV) as the makeup artist and get all famous and stuff, you simply have to upload a pic of a makeup look you’ve made inspired by the colours you see in one of these collections. Easy. As.
The two finalists (as voted by you guys) will win their very own Michael Kors makeup collection and create a YouTube (just like our lil’ Yaz’s she does at her desk) so that we can see them in action and decide who will be the very first… Boss of Gloss. Yaz and myself will then take this Boss of Gloss on a professional beauty PTV shoot and hold their hand, and gently educate them on some of the stuff we’ve learned over the years, and then demand they make up a model beautifully a few times so we may film it and put it up on PRIMPED.
AND! Even the voters get to win! We’ve got weekly giveaways of Michael Kors Very Hollywood makeup (glee! glee! glee!) and Michael Kors accessories to give away to those kind types who love their friends (or talented strangers whose work they admire) enough to vote for them.
God it’s good.
It all kicks off today (there is heeeeps more in-depth about the competition in the special Boss of Gloss website we’ve created, which will be live in the next 24 hours, and a live link will be placed here for it) so if you know you’re good at applying makeup (or have a friend who is) make sure you enter. Anyone can enter. Anyone. (But not Yaz and I.)
I know you love makeup, and I know you like to get involved, and I think you deserve to be supported and recognised for these things. (And get a cool rhyming title.)
Let the glossing begin!

hey zoe,
this comp sounds great. lets hope the girl who only put pink lipstick on doesn’t win… only due to the fact that she probably has a tonne of friends on facebook who voted for her. comps like these sometime become purely a popularity contest for the entrant & not about any talent or ability. sorry to be the voice of reason.

I won’t be entering… I’m all competitioned out. The prizes sound amazing so I suggest that anyone with a natural knack for makeup application should definitely enter. You’ve got to be in it to win it, plus I’m looking forward to casting many a vote so long as I can actually see the look created properly in the photo. Also, will the two finalists have to travel to Sydney??

Oh, but you DON’T have to be a makeup artist!

I’m not a makeup artist but I do lash extensions and I get such a creative buzz from it, I do totally feel like an artist. :)
