A sexy little way to have ‘done’ hair when it’s really, really not done

And we have Miss ERIN WASSON to thank for this inspiration, who manages to flawlessly merge ‘done’ and ‘undone’ on a daily basis. I like what she’s done with her hair here though, as she celebrates the release of a Maybelline New York calendar, of which she is obviously a spokesmodel for, because it’s sexy, it’s simple, and it’s even a little bit split endsy, but it’s also summer and we care a little less about being perfect during summer, don’t we.
Here is Miss WASSON in her fetching orange dress with her simple, side-sweep.

Now, part of Miss WASSON’s currency as a model is that she is one of the original bedhead crew, the kids who never really did their hair and who wore lots of eye liner and not much else and their wrists were always teaming with bracelets and cool pieces of string from Goa. (I interviewed her a few years back and, oh man, she was such a cool bird. Her favourite MNY product back then was Dream Matte Mousse, which she used sparingly where she needed evening out her skin tone on her face, because it “looked like skin”, which is a pretty great endorsement for a foundation.) In lieu of this, it would be foolish to expect her to roll up with a head full of bouncy, shiny curls, or a pin-straigh blow dry. She doesn’t roll that way. She lives in an eternal summer, where the hair always looks like it was in the ocean a few hours ago, and over styling it is not really an option. Let us learn from her.
All you need to do for this hair, (the ideal hair to wear with a snappy little dress and sandals and some ethnic dangly earrings) is have hair that has a bit of texture - be it from swimming, the sea or a Big Night Out - and some hair spray. (If your hair is flat and soft from being jammed under a hat all day, flip your head upside down and spray volume-boosting hair spray all over. Now blast with hair dryer for a minute.) Obviously a bit of length helps, but it certainly needn’t be as long as Miss WASSON’s.
Using a tail comb, or any comb, because let’s make this easy, man, create a deep side part on you preferred side.
Now just pull around the hair from the smaller side around the back of your head so it’s all on one side. Pop a few carefully hidden bobby pins in if you need to hold it in place (a touch of backcombing on this hair at the back followed by hair spray THEN bobby pins will help it stay extra secure) then spray into place lightly with firm hold hair spray.
Pull the hair at the front down over your face and with your fingers, tease and manipulate the mid-lengths to the ends of your hair so it looks cool and disheveled. Spray in a little sea salt spray if you have some. A GREAT trick I learned to get more texture from DARIO COTRONEO once was to twist sections of the hair, then rub the cylinder with your fingers up and down a few times, then release the twist and gently tousle it. The result is very beachy, undone, ‘fashion’.
So easy. So doesn’t matter if it’s imperfect. So soft but sexy.
Will you give it a bash?
What’s your ‘holy shit I have three minutes to get ready’ summer hair, plaits and braids aside?

tee, I sprayed unico leave-in conditioner and then smeared bumble & bumble curls conscious creme mixed with unico serum through my mid-lengths and ends. Sadly, I am not pulling off dishevelled and hipster low-mai as achingly easy as erin wasson is, though.

The 90s are back. Big time. Calvin Klein hair and nude makeup. And I am all over it like white on rice.

This is my usual morning hair sans straightener, so it’s a relief to see it’s come cool again. Remember the 90s when it was all about limp and straight? I had to kill for that.
On second thoughts, don’t remember the 90s.

when you stylish people say product… what do you mean? texturiser? hairspray? leave-in conditioner? egg whites?

I love quick summer hair. My staple is the topknot - flip head upside down, ponytail, backcomb pony for body, twist into bun. Walk out door.

I did my hair in 15 seconds flat this morning - sprayed product in my wet hair and put a headband in. Epic timesaving WIN.
