Teased Grecian “hairbands” and plum lips?…

Alberta Ferretti always delivers something special for those of us who love to track hair and makeup trends. Sometimes it’s a batch of home cooked muffins, sometimes it’s some a stack of old UK Vogues she no longer wants, and sometimes it’s the kind of excellent hair and makeup that inspires us to go straight over to the mirror and try whatever it was she placed upon her models heads and faces. ... more

Burberry isn’t buying into brights. Not one bit.…

The spring shows seems to be very much about polar opposites. For every bright cobalt blue ruffled mini or canary yellow swimsuit sashaying down the runway there’ll be a muted beige shift dress and loose-fitting nude jacket. Ditto with the makeup. And at Burberry, we were very much back in nude territory.... more

Armani’s Celebrity Army

Oh, Giorgio. You always know how to pull an impressive crowd. Whether they’re attending your shows or wearing your frocks, you always get the A list. (Solange Knowles is the exception. Maybe she nicked her sister’s invite.) ... more

Massively teased hair CAN look good

Here we are in Milan! (Photo proof to come.) And gosh, are things starting to get Very Awesome. All my favourite shows are in Milan and Paris ( Gucci, Fendi, Burberry, Chanel, Miu Miu, Prada, Viktor and Rolf etc) so the next week, blogging wise, I will be the human equivalent of a case of Red Bull. Let us begin, shall we? With some glamorous backcombed business at Just Cavalli.

Cool, easy hair anyone can pull off

Well, we’re not far off wrapping up London Fashion Week now, and trotting off to Milan, where the REAL shows begin. Till then, It’s nice to be able to show you a runway hair look I know you will be able to pull off with little to no stress or effort. It’s one of the most simple, no fuss, and always sexy looks any of us can do, no matter our hair type, cut or length. True.... more

Re-ignite your standard smoky eye with a wash of violet…

If your eye shadow brushes could speak, probably they would have a lot to say about the fetching purple smoky eye seen on the runway at Temperley London yesterday at London Fashion week. ... more

Nude, beige and buff: The next big thing in beauty

Nudes, naturals and beige have been overwhelmingly present at both New York and London spring/summer 09 collections. Both in the fashion, and the beauty. (They’re inseparable, those two.) Thankfully, this is one of those trends that is easy as to pull off, no matter your skin, hair or eye colour. ... more

Off to London! Jolly good!

Here we are in London, on our second stop on our “world” wind tour of the Spring/Summer 09. This place has a definite Britishy feel to it.... there are red buses everywhere and we hear the Queen isn’t far from we are now. (Which is definitely England.) The shows kicked off yesterday, with the Brit Kids out in force (Peaches and Pixie Geldof, Alexa Chung et al), some lovely little top knots at PPQ and more confirmation that bright orangey-red lips are, like, really big news. ... more

Frosted lips, drop earrings and quiffs at Zac Posen…

And did I mention extensions? Lots of extensions. But with the half-up, half-down look (which we also saw at Alexander Wang) it actually looks kinda cool. The rock-n-roll quiff saves the look from being too Cheryl Cole/Pussycat Dolls, and then, just when you think you’ve figured out where the look is going, cue the crazy ethnic earrings! Which changes the look again. We should be confused, but instead we just think, that looks pretty hot. I might like to try that.... more

Bronzer makes red lipstick very sexy and summery

And for a lot of women, it’s a far more wearable way to wear a red lip than with the traditional, Old Hollywood style way, with velvety, flawless skin and winged liner, ala Dita Von Teese. See, the bronzer takes the intensity of the red lip down, it makes it less harsh and by warming up and giving colour to the face, gives the lip more of a summery feel. Michael Kors sent his models out with a beautiful bronzed face and red lip combination at his Spring 09 show, which was the perfect way to stand out in the midst of so many shows, so many smoky eyes and so many barely-there faces.... more
