Tousled yet polished waves

Step 1: Spray damp hair with a thermal protector. Opt for one that also delivers volume and shine, such as De Lorenzo Instant Accentu8 Volume Spray, $21.95.

Step 2: Blow-dry hair using a round brush to add volume.

Step 3: Curl hair using a wide-barrelled curling iron. Twist each curl into a loose bun and pin to your scalp.

Step 4: Leave to cool for 15 minutes.

Tip: This is a good time to get started on your makeup. Beats sitting around waiting for hair to dry.

Step 5. Spray hair with an extra strong hold hair spray before un-pinning the curls. Let the curls fall naturally.

Step 6: Work a small amount of frizz-controlling cream into your palms and gently smooth over the curls.

Beat hat hair: When it’s time to take off your beanie, run your fingers through your hair to de-fluff but re-volumise your hair.

Best ways to wear this look: with a centre-part, and/or with mid-length locks.

Celebrity inspiration: Eva Mendes wears the look perfectly. Check her out in our ‘The best celeb mid-length styles’ gallery.
