How To: Karl Lagerfeld’s glossy, fire engine lips

Inspired by the texture of the latex headbands, MAC makeup artist Emmanuel Sammartino went for super shiny lips at Karl Lagerfeld’s A/W ’10 runway show. And boy, did those fire-engine coloured lips look stunning against the models’ porcelain skin or what? The look was powerful and strong, and ultra luxurious.

Here’s how to recreate it:

Face:
To get that sheer, dewy skin, apply MAC Face and Body Foundation, $60 to the skin. If the coverage isn’t enough and you’ve still got a few pesky zits showing through, apply some MAC Studio Sculpt Concealer, $36 where needed.

To give the cheeks a fresh flush of colour, MAC Cream Colour Base in Vintage Rose, $35 was applied to the cheeks with the fingers for a natural look.

Stop shiny t-zones in their tracks by lightly dusting some MAC Invisible Set Powder across your forehead, nose and chin. Just remember not to go overboard; you still want the skin to look a little dewy.

Eyes:
Take some MAC Eye Shadow in Hand Written, $32 – a rich, matte chocolate hue – and blend it up from the lash line and over the lids. Apply a little colour on the bottom lash line too for added definition.

Then, take some MAC Eye Shadow in Notoriety, $32 and sweep the colour over the lid and up to the crease to form a ‘halo’ shape, blending the outer edge subtly into the lower lashes.

Finish the eyes by setting those brows in place. How? Simply brush some MAC Brow Set in Clear through the brows and they won’t move an inch. Awesome.

Lip:
This look was all about the super shiny, glossy lips, so now is not the time to be stingy. First, brush some MAC Lipstick in Lady Danger, $35 onto your pout before applying a few coats of MAC Clear Lipglass, $36. Stunning.
