How to: Have Fabulous Skin by February (in 3 Simple Steps)

Are you still tight with your new year’s resolution? Or have you decided it didn’t quite work out between you both and chosen to turn your sights on the future?
Well if so, come with me. Let’s stop looking back and lamenting what we haven’t done yet and focus on the future!
Leading into February, you can set yourself up for fabulous skin. Yep, in just a few weeks you can reboot your complexion and get yourself back on track for a vibrant, revitalized visage.
I am proud to say that for the past three weeks of my beach vacay, I wore a hat. Every. Single. Day. Broad-brimmed, it was practically cemented to my scalp, but alas, I still have some uninvited pigmentation and uneven tone visiting my visage.
So the first step for me now that I am back home and with access to my own bathroom cabinet, is to gently exfoliate and regenerate my skin after all those sunny – albeit shaded – days. For this, I am absolutely loving Dr Spiller Jojoba Peeling Crème, $64, Dr Spiller. The creamy consistency and soft spheres of jojoba wax beads mean that it gently removes scaly, flaky skin without all the harsh rubbing. Perfect for lazy bones like me who don’t want to put too much grunt behind their granules. Instead, a gently rub in circular motions – avoiding the eyes – twice weekly will work wonders to revealing a radiance not seen since before Santa split.
If you’re after something slightly stronger (although I advise against it if you are exposed to a lot of sun) then try Invisible Zinc IZ Glycolic Cleanser, $35, from pharmacies. It literally strips back years of build-up on the skin. However, as it contains 12% glycolic acid, it can cause skin to be more susceptible to sun damage. If you are diligent about wearing a hat, like, forever, then get this going on. This product is killer for erasing dryness and brightening the entire complexion in just days. True story.
Your skin should by now be feeling a little cleaner and cleansed with all that extra exfoliation, especially great at this time of year when SPFs can really crank up the clog factor. So be sure not to drop the ball; maintain a clean complexion daily with a good cleansing routine. I favour a cream cleanser to really loosen grit and grime – and the stronghold of heavy sun protection. By maintaining this now, come February your skin will not only be regenerating itself beautifully thanks to all the exfoliation, but it will be in a better position to shine thanks to no daily residue build-up. This summer I’ve been trialing Burt’s Bees Radiance Facial Cleanser, $24.95, David Jones.
Again, it contains jojoba beads to gently exfoliate and a multi-fruit acid and royal jelly combination to encourage cell turnover.
Now that you’ve kicked scaly skin to the curb and nixed any daily dirt and grime, you can focus on hydration. This is the fun part; for me, summer is all about skincare rather than slap. I really minimise my makeup coverage and concentrate on hydration so oils are my answer here.
My favourite hydrating oil is by far Kosmea Skin Clinic Certified Organic Rose Hip Oil, $24.95, 1300 320 130. Why? Well, it not only give the skin one kick-butt boost, but it reduces pigmentation and treats summer nasties like dermatitis and psoriasis. It’s also fragrance-free and devoid of mineral oils, fragrances, animal fats and chemicals. Clean skin and a clear conscience!
There you have it. Three steps in three weeks to thoroughly fabulous skin by February. Got it? Good. Now let me get back to work on fine-tuning my March makeup must-haves!
