Guest Blog: Zoë Foster Blake Launched A Skincare Range, You Guys!

Wed, 2 April 2014 3:00PM

It is good to be back.

‘Sbeen almost three years since I wrote a blog for PRIMPED, and twice as many since I launched this darling into the Worldiest Widest Web of them all. And isn’t she gorgeous? Such pretty hair! Such shiny eyes! Such lovely fonts!

Zoë Foster Blake

A lot has happened since I was (constantly annoying the I.T guys and nicking all the raisin toast) around here, you guys. I got married and am pregnant (to the same chap, which is convenient), I released an app to complement Amazing Face, published two novels, fought an internal, summer-long battle against buying Birkenstocks, and completely changed my position on sunscreen.

Go-To Skincare by Zoë Foster Blake

Well, we did, really. It was largely the feedback I had from sweet dames like you (and you, the little cutie standing behind her) over the years that inspired the range, and gave me the confidence to know there was demand for it. Which sounds like a ridiculous sentence considering there are 8, 259,022 excellent skin care lines already out there, but that’s almost the problem: with so much out there, what in heck’s name (close friend of God but is less annoyed if you use his name in vain) are you supposed to use? And how do you use it? And what will it do? And can you use too much or too little of it? And is it the best thing for your skin? Really?

Yes, it can all be a bit confusing and hard, and unlike hair and makeup, which you can guess your way through and you will still get by, skin care can make a HUGE difference to your skin and appearance, (good or bad) both short and long-term, and is something worth getting right.

So, I thought, why not combine what I’d learned in 10 years of being a beauty writer, with what I knew women wanted and needed to use (and should use, even if they don’t know it) and create something uncomplicated, foolproof, failsafe, effective, easy to use, and completely pure?

So I bloody well did. It’s called Go-To, and it’s designed to act as the foundation of any decent skin care routine. Oh sure, bring in those power serums or face oils, keep using that toner, lather yourself in that delicious masque, but at the heart of it, you will still need the basics. May as well make them useful.

There are five products. One is a delicious mousse cleanser, Properly Clean, $29.95, which I formulated to properly remove all the primers, sunscreens and long-wear makeup I keep telling you guys to wear, without stripping or drying the skin one teeny bit.

There are single-use exfoliating pads, Exfoliating Swipeys, $45.95, which contain gentle AHAs to give a thorough, even exfoliation every time, with no harsh scrubbing or confusion over strength and amounts, because as long as you use one swipe two to three times a week, well, that’s exfoliation taken care of.

There’s Very Useful Face Cream, $39.95, a moisturiser that cares as much about protecting and defending the skin (with super mega power anti-oxidants like the amazing amla berry) as it does hydrating it, because while having hydrated skin is nice, it’s being protected against free radical damage that will keep wrinkles, pigmentation and lines away.

Then there’s Lips!, $14.95, a lip balm made by a total lip balm perfectionist/snob, (“me”) and the result of over 20 versions. It has the best of all those lip balms you love in one adorable coral tube: ultra medical grade lanolin, shea butter, vitamin e, beeswax, seven nourishing oils… and ZERO petrochemicals, obviously. It’s creamy with a light sheen and most crucially it actually works.

Finally, there is Exceptionoil, $49.95, a multi-purpose, do-it-all oil/balm that smells like a luscious Tahitian garden and sinks immediately into the skin. It’s wonderful on ‘rough bits’ like elbows, cuticles and heels, gorgeous used as body oil, lovely in the bath, terrific on dry hair ends, fantastic dabbed on lightly under face cream as a serum (oily skins notwithstanding) and even mixed in with foundation for glow. It’s spewing with 10 completely pure skin-loving oils, as well as creamy butters and anti-oxidants, and has even been known to heal eczema. What a guy.

The name Go-To, by the way, came about because I kept jabbering onto my biochemist, “This needs to be girls’ go-to face cream, you know?” or “This will be their go-to exfoliant,” or “Where did you go-to get that toasted sandwich?” I want the products to become your go-to products, as they are mine. The ones we rely on, that we like using, that we can see and feel the results.

For those wondering, I told all the nasties (petrochemicals, PEGs, mineral oils, parabens, sulfates, silicones, GMOs, synthetic colours and fragrances) to rack off and obviously Go-To does not perform animal testing of any kind. No palm oil either in any of the products either, since you (telepathically) asked.

No, it’s just pure-as, uncomplicated gear that gives good skin. And I really, deeply, creepily, hope you like it.

And if you don’t, for the love of lychees, stay quiet, yeah?

the exceptionoil sounds like it smells good… hope it does sink in immediately unlike any other “balm” I’ve ever tried which is thick and greasy and doesnt absorb.

All of the products sound lovely but are they suitable for the 40 – 50 age group?

I love the look of this range, it is exactly what’s missing from the gigantic skin care market, basic products that every girl, young and old, need everyday. I can’t wait to get my hands on it :)

I’m SO happy you didn’t buy Birkenstocks. Also, HUZZAH for the skin care line. Have to wait for pay day but looking forward to it.

So nice to see a beauty writer who listens to her audience and then creates products to fill the needs she has heard.
