Video: The 5 minute makeover for when you’re on the go.

Fri, 13 January 2012 11:14AM

We’re forever banging on and on about the beauty of a bold lip. The LBD of the makeup world, there’s not a pucker that it doesn’t flatter or an event that it doesn’t look right at home at. Matt, tinted, glossy or stained, it’s classic, it’s rich-looking and best of all, it’s easy.

The Inspiration

The glossy sometimes-red, sometimes-berry-depending-on-how-it-catches-the-light lip at Christian Dior’s Summer 2012 show.

The How-To

In case you can’t watch the video at work, here are some pointers.

  • If you’re terrified of a full on red, or not keen on the maintenance factor try using a lipstick pencil. Like a chubby texta, they’re easy to control and go on relatively sheer so you can keep layering until you’re satisifed with the amount of coverage. Plus, they also deliver a ton of shine which helps bounce light off the lips to make the pucker look fuller.
  • Got a glossy lippie but you want a matt finish? Dusting a teeny tiny amount of a translucent power over the lip will knocks back the shine to transform the finish.

The perfect match: A red or berry lip alone is powerful, but if you’re keen to add a little extra drama you can’t go wrong with a wash of gold shadow up to the brow bone and along the bottom lash line.

Tell me Primpettes

Have you swapped lipstick for a lip marker?

Do you use the old translucent powder trick?

How often would you wear red lipstick?

When you wear red lipstick, what do you do with the rest of your makeup?

It’s a great article, but for me, tainted slightly by more Australis product pushing.

I love that Primped provides low and high end product options, but it seems like a lot of articles lately have been written solely for the aim of encouraging Primped readers to invest solely in Australis products. I do like the brand and agree they have good quality products, but having them listed so frequently can also be a bit off-putting.

I do love wearing a bold lip and try to keep the rest of my make up to a minimum when I’m wearing a bold lip. I either blot or dust some powder over if I am wearing a highly glossy formula that I want to mattify slightly.

Go Eliza ! How gorgeous are you!!

As the eternal strong lipstick-phobe, tinted balms and textas are really talking my a-language.

Burts Bees Tinted Lip Balm in Rose and CoverGirl Outlast Pens are my lipstick loophole! Bright colour but still sheer , wearable and not scary& I feel comfortable and not checking a mirror every 2 minutes to see that they have not smudged.

Am curious about the NARS matte pencils I feel they will do the same thing

Sorry but yeah guys – cash for comment??

I like YSL Rouge Volupte in Rouge Tentation or NARS Heat Wave. Eyes neutral gold wash – NARS and Chanel do good shadows in this shade and nice dark black eyeliner from YSL or MAC. Very subtle pink cheeks.

Such a great tip! I wear a red lip when I have worked double shift and am exhausted, it lifts your look instantly!

Lip tar’s are a great option for this look aswell, they last FOREVER and have a glossy finish when applied. Perfect :)

Good tip Eliza! The lip pencil looks so much easier to apply lipstick.

I have two different shades of red lisptick. One is a bright slighly dark red with matt finish by Lancome and the other is a bright fire engine red with creamy gloss finish by Revlon.

I wear my red lipsticks depending on the occassion and outfit that I’m wearing. Usually at least once a week.

The dress in pic 2 is gorgeous!

A red lip is such a good way of brightening up your look.

You can’t go wrong with a red lip. I still can’t manage to pull this off in the day time – even with a lipstain due to my very pale skin.

I really love a bold lip,but prefer a lip gloss, instead of a lipstick.

Sarah, the answer to your question seems to be: Revlon

I love the look of red lips – just not on me. I really look like a vampire in it and not in a sexy Twilight sort of way. I stick to peach and lighter colours usually.

I love the look of a beautiful red lip, on the right person. I’m not that right person.

i like that chubby stick lip crayon, looks really easy to use. Love Australis products, so budget friendly.

Oh yes, nothing perks your appearance more than a bright lippie!

  • Posted by: talkalot Master Fan // Sun, 15 December 2013 06:58pm

I am careful with the red lipstick shades I wear, not all suit me. I much prefer a matt red lip to glossy.
