Stopping the Summer Makeup Slide

During summer, my foundation comes off my nose in particular, and goes patchy. This is not ideal. I liberally apply my Laura Mercier primer each morning but nothing seems to help the problem. Any solutions?
No, that’s not ideal at all!
Perhaps first try switching from a traditional primer to a sheer mattifier, even if just on the nose area. Anyway, if you’re oily here, the last thing you want to do is to clog up your pores and potentially cause a whole lot of congestion. Way better to go for a lighter formulation that will simply control oil and not try to do anything else. I’d suggest M.A.C Mattifier, $36, M.A.C.
Also, play around with foundation formulations – a cream-to-powder base might work best for you. At the other extreme, if you don’t have much redness or discolouration on your nose, you could go super-light and use a tinted moisturiser – the less pigment there is on your nose, the less there is to slide off!
Another option is to change the way you apply your base. Say, use a foundation brush to really press it in – I love Shiseido Foundation Brush, $49, department stores – and then finish it all off with translucent powder. Or try a setting spray, such as Skindinävia Makeup Finishing Spray, $29.95, 1800 242 011.
This should hold sebum at bay for the rest of the day. If not, have some blotting papers on hand so that you can whip away any shine before it has the chance to make a mess. Alternatively, some mattifying gels – like the M.A.C one – can be patted on over makeup to re-set your look.
