The Hottest Hair Trends by Brad Ngata

I’m constantly being quizzed about what are the hottest looks, styles and colours of the minute. While there will always be THE trend that is oh-so-now (hold that thought) what’s most important is choosing a look that suits you. Whether it’s how much time you are willing to commit to styling, the shape of your face or the texture, weight and growth rate of your hair – there’s no point having unrealistic expectations of how a style will look, if it just isn’t right for you. Sorry to be a kill joy!
As for the oh-so-now looks everyone will be asking for over the coming months, here are my top cut, colour and styles …for today anyway:
Ron Weasley, hold on to your hat, Hermione Granger is all grown up and boy, is she bangin’. Emma Watson’s new pixie-cut do, will be the look for brave girls this spring. I love the way it shows women short hair can still be sexy, cool and feminine and for Emma, it says ‘I’ve grown up, am making my own decisions and show me my next Burberry campaign, thank-you-very-much’. This cut inspiration comes from Mia Farrow’s famous cut in Rosemary’s Baby and has been re-invented on one of the most famous young people in the world. The key to getting this right is the proportion and lightness achieved by using a feathering technique. The colour adds a dimension to the cut and the depth at the roots with the lightened ends are on trend making it current and cool.
Florence and the Machine’s lead vocalist, Florence Welch’s hair is as loud as her voice. She oozes sex-bomb, magical cool, but sadly, this intense, jaw-dropping, eye grabbing light copper can only be pulled of by a select few. Think minxy PRIMPED fave Christina Hendricks, Julianne Moore and Ashlee Simpson-Wentz. Soft pale skin, light green or deep blue eyes work well with this colour. And remember, it is definitely high maintenance with colour fading and re-growth two key words that come to my mind when thinking of this colour. If you can commit to monthly salon visits, the ability to pull this look off and the head turns you get when you do will make it totally worthwhile.
One of the most effortless style icons whose hair is top of the trend list, is fashion’s front-row face, Alexa Chung. Darling Yaz shows how you can rock this easy to maintain look. The depth of the balayage is beautiful, with a brown semi painted over toned, lighter foils that start from the upper mid lengths. It’s the ultimate ‘lazy-girl’ hair, but instead of saying ‘I couldn’t be bothered’, it screams ‘I’m so cool, my hair just looks like this’. Effortless chic we call that. Alexa’s look is best suited to wavy medium thick hair, but is one of the few styles that, with consultation of your stylist and some amendments here or there, can suit just about anyone.
