Nicole Richie goes brunette. Saw that one coming.

It’s quite a dark, chocolatey brunette, and I have to be honest and say that I’m not convinced it’s the most flattering hair colour on Miss NICOLE RICHIE. But what would I know. (Besides everything.) What’s fun is seeing how over the past few months she has gradually shifted from Cali girl blonde to Alaskan lady brunette. (Too harsh?)
Here’s Miss RICHIE around four months ago, doing that long blonde hair with extensions and a fringe that she has become a little bit famous for. I don’t mind this colour on her, akshually.
And then, a month later, here she is doing what I class as a Total Hair Win: The extensions are out, the fringe has gone, the length is chic, the colour is very naturally highlighted, almost as though she hasn’t coloured it at all, actually, it’s just like that. But as you can see from that dark blonde/light brown base, she has begun her voyage to the dark side. (Less about cults and sacrificial lambs; more about hair dye.)
Cut to another month or so, and she’s added a lot more low-lights, and grown that fringe out completely and popped those ‘stensions back in. She has also apparently located a time machine, because this hairstyle looks suspiciously like the hair she had in Simple Life days, circa 2005. I’m not a fan. (And those eyebrows, Jebus RICHIE! Fill them in, please!)
Finally, we’re in the present, (well, yesterday to be precise) and here is Miss RICHIE sporting her favourite fringe, her most bestest-most-loved extensions and a deep mahogany brunette. She looks cute, and kind of…. bookish, but I personally think it’s washing out her skin tone. I am pleased however to see she has filled in her eyebrows to compensate for the new hair shade. Great Job, NIC.
Look, she can actually get away with all of them, but I think she looks “best” (that is to say, the look is most flattering on her eyes and skin tone) when she is a mix of golden, caramel, blonde and browns all mixed up together in a kind of hair tone mojito.
Ultimately though, my biased opinion aside, it’s awesome that she mixes things up, tries new things. She could happily sit in her Hippie Headband Blonde Hair Icon chair and let the world pass by, but she doesn’t. She gets out of that chair and into the salon chair, and for that I commend her.
(Still think she should go back to that lovely shoulder-length, sunkissed-golden-caramel-blonde, though.)
Which NICOLE do you prefer?
Do you think the brunette washes her out?
Fringe or no fringe?
