Truly Scarve-lous!

If I was Oprah or Gwyneth and this was ‘O’ Mag or ‘Goop’, then you’d probably hoot twice over what hair accessory I am head over heels in love with this week,

But seeing as my list begins with my penchant for eating the white part of Jungle Jellies and pronouncing the English version of the Spanish name ‘Jorge’ (which is Hor’he. Cute, right?), you may not wish to know.

But I’m going to tell you anyway. My beauty barometer has hit ‘Happy’ over the headscarf revolution. And I have it on good authority (mine) that you Primpettes are going to dig it too.

It’s Sunday evening and I found myself scratching my head about Mondays blog. And it was during said scratching session that I hit on it. Literally. The headscarf I was wearing to hide my multitude of styling sins.

I have loved this look forever. My mother is a great inspiration having fashioned her own headscarves to match every outfit she designed and sewed for herself and us four girls. Twenty odd (very odd) years on, I am still walking around most days resembling a living homage to I Love Lucy.

The headscarf offers everything you want in a hair accessory; elegance, individuality and versatility.

The scarf literally has more lives than a cat (Ok, maybe not Meowbert. But normal cats anyway).

Vintage scarves are my weakness but you can head into any fashion chain store and you will see scarves begging to be worn around your neck.

I urge you to rebel. Try a few styles on your hair. Have fun. Mix it up. Revel in the compliments.

Try any one of these notable takes on the trend:

For short hair: Long scarves work best, as you can knot them at the nape of the neck – to one side – and have the length cascading over shoulder for beach chic or tie a big dang cheery bow on the top of your head. This is my favourite look. Quirky but super confident.

For dirty hair: Secure in a low bun at the nape and simply fold a scarf in half and take right to the front hairline so that no hair is visible. Tie at the nape, then around your low bun and tie again. Hair gone. Chic On.

For evening: This is a hot look for the discothèque. Think Studio 54 and GO! Add bangles, dark eyeliner and glossy lips. Keeps blow-dry in tiptop shape no matter what time – or where – you end up.

For dry ends: Use a big square scarf and wrap from the crown (in line with ears) to a knot at the nape. Let the lengths fall and let the scarf take the heat for you failing to get a haircut.

For the beach: Protect hair from sun damage and prepare tour scalp for its ‘Sexiest Sister on the Beach’ crown.

For regrowth: Fold the scarf in half and cover the entire front section of your hair, securing at the nape. Move your hairdressing appointment back another week.

For the Crafty Cat: Do like Babbs (My Ma) and whip one up yourself with a strip of cracker fabric or embellish some satin. Yummier than the white bits from Jungle Jellies.

I agree - Deyn’s is the best because it’s the most interesting. I think the main thing is to watch the fabric, anything that isnt silk and you could look like a backpacker… not that thats all that bad.
