With an onslaught of new fragrances being bandied about in time for Valentines Day, now is the perfect week to update your fave.

The smorgasbord has been topped up Primpettes. You can grab a sensorial plate and pile it high with perfume. Bugger that. Go back for seconds if you wish, armed with the biggest olfactory utensil you can find!

Enough twee analogies? Great. Let’s move on.

Ok, so Primpettes, where to start with what’s new? Well, I am loving the brand spanker from V&R – Eau Mega – if not for anything but the packaging, and The Body Shop have done a gorgeous new fragrance called Love Etc. Thierry Mugler gets really out there with Alien EDT; Tom Ford Private Blend White Musk Collection (4 brand newbies) also kicks olfactory goals. And you simply can’t sniff at Kate Moss Vintage or Marc Jacobs Lola. Or maybe you can?

But before I run out of puff, I have to say that extolling the virtues of fragrance on a website is like listening to a cooking show on the radio. You just can’t get the full delicious effect of their appeal. For that Primpettes, you have to try for yourself.

So get thee to a cosmetics counter. You never know, choosing the right sexy, sweet or subtle scent in time for this Sunday may cause a few heads to swivel your way. A few numbers to be snuck into your handbag and maybe even a big fat diamond ring being offered to you from bended knee. Which is weird if you’re only 13, a Nun or already married.

Here are some of the members of my personal fragrance collection. Seems I’m a floral kind of gal. What’s your poison Primpettes?

Prada Infusion D’Iris Eau de Parfum Spray, $109 (Floral). Totally irresistible and captivating. So much so that I douse my husband in it if he shits me by leaving his wet board shorts on the Spanish rug. Again. Spritz Spritz! Instant amnesia in a bottle.

Marc Jacobs EDP, $120 (Woody). This is strong, independent and essential for business meetings, presentations and any event where I have to give off an air of charm and chutzpah.

FlowerBomb V&R, $120 (Floral). This is the one that drives my husband to distraction.  We shared our first date with me wearing this, we eloped to New York with me wearing this, and I probably got knocked up – both times – wearing only this. Nuf said. Actually, too much said.

ascent by Issey Miyake, $119 Ok, imagine you are bathing in fresh pure minty water, chewing mints and drinking mint tea, whilst having a gale force of fresh minty breeze cascade over you? Well, there is no mint in it, and it doesn’t smell a hint like mint, but Dang, it’s fresh.

Estee Lauder Tuberose Gardenia Private Collection, 30ml, $130 (Floral). If you want to be that girl who walks into a room and everyone stops* and the waiter asks you what you are wearing* (whilst your partner is sitting next to you*) and asks you to stand in the downdraft so he can smell you whilst making your coffee*, and your driver (it was for a function. I am no Chuck Bass) asks you what it is called so he can buy it for his new bride*, then this is for you.

Chloe EDP, $80 (Floral/Rose). The launch of this fragrance consisted of a Chloe Sevigny/Clementine Poesy/Charlotte Gainsborough type giving it props during the presentation. She was some big wig from Planet Chloe but no-one really cared. She had us at Bonjour. As did the fragrance.
