Back to Beauty School

As a beauty editor, it goes without saying that I love makeup. I also love Fly Fishing but my waders are getting washed, so here I am.

Anyhooo… with loving makeup comes the anticipation of a new cosmetic collection. Zoë has been waxing lyrical over the delicious Estee Lauder Michael Kors Very Hollywood colour collection, and seeing as she beat me to it (her heels have wheels, I swear!) I thought I’d fawn over Bobbi Browns latest delivery: Ivy League Collection.

It seems this year, getting your Back 2 School kit together is not all about Clarke shoes and Bic pens. It’s about looking friggin’ fabulous while you’re getting clever. Beauty is wisdom Primpettes, as Bobbi Brown knows so well.

She is a cosmetic icon who develops what I think is one of the most coveted yet attainable cosmetic lines around. Her stuff delivers. It’s on-trend but durable and it doesn’t break the piggy bank. Three Gold Stars right there Primpettes.

With her Ivy League collection, Bobbi is teaching us that pencils are back. In a big way thanks to their “quick, mistake-proof” appeal, and versatility; allowing a look to go from subtle to bold faster than you can say “I will not write notes in class” seven times.

I am a big fan of cream. Not the whipped-straight-out-of-a-can-down-your-gullet type, but rather the creamy texture of an eye pencil. Oh I likey!

I just find some non-cream eye pencils can feel a bit nasty. So I always opt for creamy pencil formula’s so that I can line the inner eye (my fave is a subtle metallic colour on the bottom inner lid for day. It just makes eyes pop without looking too full on) or the upper lash line without any pulling or dragging around this sensitive area.

Bobbi’s new Creamy Eye Pencil, $46 is a recipient of my hard won kudos for this very reason. It’s smooth and intensely pigmented, meaning one fell swoop on lids is all it takes.

Top honours also go to the New Forest Shimmer Ink Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner $45. Every girl needs a great eyeliner, but it can be fun to look outside the beauty box and grab something other than trusty black.

I love this gel eyeliner because it lasts long time and the deep green pigment with golden pearls just smashes it out of the park. For evening, it is just so gorgeously subtle teamed back with a slate colour across the lids.

There is more to the collection, but these two are top of the class for me. Not sure if they are necessary for badminton lessons or Home Economics, but boy, you’ll hear more wolf whistles on the bus home than in the Twilight Saga.

Aroooo!
