Eleanor Asked: I'm looking for a new bronzer brush, what would you recommend? I can never seem to find the right one!
Answer:
You need a Kabuki brush. They have a short, chubby base with a rounded, fluffy fan-like brush on the top. Sorta in the shape of Bart Simpson.
Kabuki brushes have one up on your standard blush brush because it sort of 'bounces' the colour onto your face instead of 'sweeping' it. It has densely packed but soft bristles that let you buff the bronzer (or blush or powder foundation) onto your face and gives you more control over where you're dispersing the colour.
The bristles of kabuki brushes can be either synthetic or made from natural fibers: goat, squirrel, pony or sable hairs. Celebrity makeup artist Tony Surratt prefers natural fibers, saying, "not only are they the fluffiest and the softest, but they also have a cuticle—just like human hair—that really grabs pigment and holds on until you place it exactly where you want on the face." His recommendation? "Blue squirrel is the best quality (hence, the most expensive). But I really believe that high-quality brushes are worth the price. They don't just perform the best; they also make applying makeup a pleasure."
