Illuminating Pale Skin

Abby Asked:

I'm embracing my pale skin this summer but I still want to have a 'dewy, glowy' finish. I'm not a huge fan of bronzers, can you give me any other suggestions?

Answer:

As a fellow fair-skinned Primper, I totally understand where you are coming from. Luckily, there are a whole stack of different ways to help your porcelain complexion get its glow on without the use of a bronzer. Fill your makeup bag with the following products:

Rosehip Oil
This stuff is the ultimate all in one purchase. Use it as a night time moisturiser and it will leave your skin glowing, no matter what your skin tone is. It also is fantastic at reducing any scars or stretch marks.

Highlighters
Embrace the magic that is highlighters. Try any with a white/gold base and apply to the cheekbones. Benefit’s High Beam, $42, gives a gorgeous sheen on pale skin.

Iridescent White Eyeshadow
Apply to the inner corner of the eyes for an ‘ethereal’ look that will brighten your whole face. You can also use it to create your own DIY highlighter by mixing your shadow in with your moisturiser.

Luminisers
Use a primer that doubles as a luminiser or contains light-reflecting particles. You can use it under or mixed in with your foundation or moisturiser. Try Giorgio Armani Fluid Sheer, $86, or Clarins Instant Light Complexion Perfector, $50.

More Eyeshadows
A neat little tip from Peter Philips, the global creative director for Chanel makeup, is to stick with shimmer eye shadow as it “plays with the sun.” Look for shades with a subtle, pearlescent shimmer rather than a flat, matte finish and steer clear of any large glittery particles. The look here is soft candle-light, not shiny disco-ball!

To ensure you’re pale skin is at its illuminating best, you need to take a look at your skin care routine. Are you exfoliating 3-times a week? If not, then do so ASAP. Clogged up pores and tired, old skin cells are not the base you want to be creating a dewy finish on.

Lastly, ditch the powders and matte foundations. Pretty self explanatory really. With summer coming on, you may even think about switching foundations to a lighter formula or just sticking to a tinted moisturiser. This will let your natural ‘glow’ shine through.
