Plunkett Superfade Cream (& other ways to get rid of pimple scars) (19 posts)

I've been trying (for months) to deal with pimple scars - the only reason i keep needing to now wear heavier makeup as i have several prominent marks.
I've been through rosehip oil, several tubes of clinique's even better serum, and am now onto John Plunketts Acceleartor and Superfade Cream (cheap! and available through epharmacy).
i think it and a course of dermabrasion is helping, but am always looking for a miracle product. anyone have any tips or great products that are hard core & work? :-)

i switched to a different type of pill and it seems now whenver i get a pimple it stays and scars (not sure if it is the pill, but only thing i can think!). any tips on getting rid of the occasional one quickly and without scar would be ace!

  • Oh gosh I would love some help with this too I am beginning to think that a chemical peel may be the only fix! I also used the latest fading product from Clinique and was severely disappointed after all of the great things that I read on Primped. My pigmentation and scars didn't fade in the slightest.

  • Yeah i was really disappointed with the Clinique serum - very average but the plunkett superfade is making a different (and the tubes only cost $20 each!) i'm doing a course of glycolic peels (which is not really a peel, more like a tingly 5 minute facial!) and microdermabrasion to see if it will help. there are some ace deals around at the moment thankfully!

  • A pricier option you might want to consider is SK-II's facial treatment essence.

I've been using it fairly regularly since purchasing in September and have seen good results. (I say "fairly regularly" because I am prone to skipping the full face routine on weekends after a few drinks, but alas...)

Perhaps a friendly DJs or Myer SA could give you some tips?

  • I've been using Glyco-Peel from Eventone for the same reason and i'm finding it's making a huge difference to pimple scars. You have to be really careful about sun protection and it is quite painful if you put it on an unhealed blemish, but it helps the scar to fade really fast, as well as reducing fine lines and getting rid of dead skin. I use it every night at the moment, if you have sensitive skin you can just put it on for a minute or two then rinse it off, but i leave it on all night now that my skin is used to it. You can get it from Priceline for about $25 :)

  • I used to use the superfade cream to lighten the freckles on my nose and I found them fading after a while but wasn't sure if this was just because I was spending less time in the sun... So it is nice and cheap and can work but it takes a while.

  • DMK (Danne Montague King) Herbal Pigment Oil really helps get rid of redness and scarring from pimples if you use it regularly. I use it to combat redness and scarring from monthly breakouts around my chin/mouth. It also helps with pigmentation from sun damage, and fine lines too. You only need a few drops, and I find it absorbs really well and spreads further if you use it with a mist toner.

  • i have the same problem, a lot of people recommend rosehip oil etc but when i spoke to my dermatologist about it he said that all oils are proven to only aggravate acne prone skin, and if your skin scars more pimples will only make matters worse. Lasers your best option for scars, or getting a prescription for retinoids or roaccutane to prevent anymore breakouts and scarring

  • Mmm, i'm trying some more mico & glycolic options first. Roaccutane is far too extreme for my skin at the moment.
Interestingly the Glyco-Peel from Eventone mentioned above is also from Plunkett's - which is a good tip to try! i'm off to order on epharmacy

  • I had some terrible acne scars a couple of years ago which I successfully treated with 2 IPL treatments. It will cost more than most serums or creams but the results are guaranteed. Well worth looking into if you are troubled by any sort of redness.

  • @ tarshb- it (glyco-peel) does have lactokine in it which is derived from milk, but i don't know where they get their milk from. i'm ok with it, as i am vego not vegan, but i know some people might not be.

  • Kallyn - if you have even remotely sensitive skin, you might find the Clinique works for you.
Just stick at it - like so many glyco/retinol/acid products you do need to commit to see results.

I've been using it regularly as one of the 'actives' my usual rotation (SK-II treatment essence, Philosophy Help Me retinol cream) and it's been doing a great job.

  • Thanks for that juji. Have you had any peels or facials specific to pigmentation at the beautician?

  • Last month I broke out with adult acne and was left with severe acne scars. Desperate I spend hours and hours and hours researching the top fading products out there and I came across Zenmed http://www2.zenmed.com/skincare/scars/?sc=US I have been using this for a week now and can't believe how much my scars have faded. I also use there acne line as I never want to get acne like I did a month ago...I now get the odd zit right before my monthly. One other thing that beauty members are raving about is JK Secrets (Zenmed dries out your skin a bit because of the exfoliation action going on) tried a sample of their liquid gold and the very next day my skin was 80% back to being hydrated. If you use coupon code BHER on the JK site you get 30% off. I'm telling you this stuff works!

  • Ultraceuticals even skin tone serum and Ultra C treatment cream have worked quite well for me. I had a series of dermabrasion done before I got married and these were the products that were recommended that I use in between treatments. OK for sensitive skin too.
