Unless you're eating peanut-butter-and-jelly sandwiches under a star-spangled banner, you don't get much more All-American than Thomas Jacob Hilfiger who launched his first signature collection of jeans and men's sportswear in 1984. Fast forward 10ish years later, and Mr. H expanded (in a non-literal sense of course, because we all know designers don't get fat) to include women's clothing, eyewear, jewellery, home products and fragrances. True Star for chickas was invented in 09/04 because Beyonce Knowles so impressed Tom Tom with her out-of-this world underarm poses - (Ok, and possibly, because he thought she was a "True celestial body"- and no, not the planet Jupiter). The Enrique Iglesias-inspired men's version popped up the following year. Tommy's new juice Dreaming, is all old-Hollywood glam. Those who first remember ripping the 1999 Tommy Cologne ads out of Dolly to cover their maths exercise book, can appreciate the way Sir Hilfiger has a knack of making every perfume smell different but always fresh.
