A Review: Omnilux Light Therapy

Like a cat drifting in and out of consciousness as it basks in the sunlight, I too enjoy nothing more than sitting under warm heat and feeling it seep into every pore of my skin. The only difference is that instead of my skin being damaged by UVA and UVB rays that accompany said sunlight, the light I prefer to sit under is actually doing my skin good. Lots of it. It’s called OMNILUX Light Therapy, Primpers and it assists in everything from acne to collagen production.
I don’t sunbake, I try and drink my 2 litres of water a day and I’ve just taken up Yoga. The point? I do all the things that should keep my skin in youthful condition well into my 70’s. Ha! Maybe that’s wishful thinking but I think I’m looking good for at least the next 10 years. The thing is, Primpers, I WANT MORE. I want to have a glow that doesn’t require illuminator and I want to be able to forget to wear makeup and still be OK with that.
And this is where OMNILUX comes in…
Created in the UK 10 years ago, OMNILUX is a non-surgical (i.e not-at-all painful) treatment that uses light to help stimulate your skins natural collagen production. The light is pure, so there’s nothing harmful about it, it doesn’t contain any UVA or UVB rays and it’s not IPL or laser light, either. What this pure light does is get into the deeper layers of your skin that your therapist can’t. It’s like a facial for the deep, deep layers of your face. What all this really means is that your skin looks younger, more hydrated, healthier and plumped up, giving you results that a simple skincare regimen and 2 litres of water simply cannot.
There are 3 machines, each one with a different coloured light that targets different concerns. OMNILUX Blue is great if you have acne as it works to reduce excess sebum, inflammation and bacteria. OMNILUX Revive uses red light to help stimulate the levels of moisture in your skin and plump it up, leaving it hydrated and more youthful. Used in conjunction with the OMNILUX Revive, is OMNILUX Plus, which uses athermal light to help rebuild and strengthen tissue and increase blood flow.
Here’s a visual:
As I’m more concerned about plumping, anti-ageing and getting that pregnant glow (erm, without the baby) I went for a combination of the Revive and Plus. The first treatment takes 45 minutes and each one after that, 30. My therapist recommended I get a course of 8 treatments to get the full effect and clearly, I was totes up for that as it’s about as relaxing as the Thai massage I got last night. It’s not hot or painful, the only thing I would say to look out for is for the first few seconds, the red light is REALLY bright and while your eyes adjust, you may experience a little discomfort. It’s kind of like you’re staring into the sun, but once your eyes adjust, it’s absolutely heaven. Think warm light, comfy bed and a hand massage while you relax.
My first light therapy treatment was combined with a Priori CoffeeBerry Facial, so after only 1 treatment I was the Prime Minister of Glow Town (a radiant city, that one). My cheeks were all plumped up and delicately blushed and I could actually feel the blood flowing around more freely. Weird, but true. By my third treatment my skin was looking more radiant and healthy than it had in years. I think all those alcohol fueled Saturday nights had actually made me lose my glow a bit, but now, it’s back baby. BACK!
As you can imagine, by the last treatment my skin was, in a word, amazing. I’m not one to gloat, but I have to say, I was pretty damn impressed with how my skin was looking. You know when you look in the mirror and your skin just seems, well, dull? It’s not like there was anything specifically wrong with it, it was just blah. Like an unripe apple. There’s nothing worse. All powdery and gross. It was like that. But by the end of the course, all those little fine lines that were popping up around my eyes and all that dullness had dissipated and been replaced by fresh, youthful skin.
Now, Primpers, I’m not saying that this light will take away all your wrinkles and make you look 15 years younger. It won’t. But what I will say is that if you’re concerned about loss of hydration in your skin and you need a little pep up (like Guarana, but for your skin) then perhaps this treatment is for you. I found a difference in my skin, and now, I like to have little top up sessions every few months to keep the radiance going.
Otherwise, if you have acne and want to try something other than Benzoyl Peroxide give the blue light a go. I’d definitely recommend it.
OMNILUX ranges from $90-$110 per treatment and is available nationally. Call 1800 808 993 or more details.
