Video: Can I pull off black lipstick?

Two new ranges landed on my desk last week that both contained black lipstick. Chanel and M.A.C. Now, it’s no surprise to me really, black lips have been spotted at YSL and other mad ass shows over the past few seasons so it was only a matter of time before they rolled on out to us.

However, for the everyday chick like me, who prefers pink lips and cheeks over crazy black makeup, this trend is probably not all that wearable. So I feel that it’s my duty as a beauty editor (my blog isn’t called Beauty Duty for nothing) to try this tricky trend so that you guys can see whether it works or not. Tell me what you think.

Here’s the vid:

And here are some images:

And another:

And here are the products I used:

M.A.C GlimmerGlass in Blackware, $44. On sale 5th Oct
Chanel Rouge Allure Lipstick in Hysteria, $50. On sale 16th of August

I’m loving black lipstick at the moment! OK, so it’s not something I’m wearing to Coles but I am a fan. Works with a neon bright eye. For everyday wear I am totally in love with Lipstick Queen ‘Black Tie Optional’ which is a sheer, matt grey and gives a beautiful pouty look.

Hi Primpers,
Great feedback, keep it coming. So far I think the black might be out. Veronica, the shade is L’Oreal Resist and Shine in Hot Coral. Winner, right? Umm, what else? Oh yeah, music. Will totes turn in down next time. Still learning this iMovie business. Thanks again xx

Sorry dude...I think the seriously black lips should stay on the catwalk. Try Poppy King’s new Chinatown lip/gloss pencil for a darker pout that is still gorgeous or her high shine gloss in black! Way better!!!

you are too cute yas.
i think black lips is a hard trend to pull off without looking a bit silly. black nailpolish tick, black eye make up - tick, black lips - no.

Your gorg Yas, but I don’t think anyone can pull off black lips.  It’s just a bit, well, vampire-ish!

Well, you’re very pretty so you could get away with almost anything. Buuut it’s pretty out there. Def not something I’d ever wear, I prefer a more classic look.

also - totally unrelated, could you maybe make the music at the start of your videos less loud? it kinda overpowers your voice! I would be ever so grateful :)

The black should definitely be kept on the lids and the lashes. Your nail polish was actually my fave thing about this vid. What shade is it?
