A Review: Day 1: Urban Remedy Juice Cleanse

The idea of not eating solid foods for 3 days seemed totally doable. At first. Now, 6 hours into day 1, it seems EPIC. Today Primpers, I’m embarking on a tough challenge; a 3-day juice cleanse that requires me to sip on 6 different juices, every 2 hours, for the next 3 days. Daunting? Just a little. Let me take you on my ride…
It all started with an email between Emma, the main squeeze at Urban Remedy, and Zo. They got to talking and decided that I was the perfect PRIMPED guinea pig to try this cleanse. It made sense to me. Y’see, last year was probably the funnest of my life. I had a new and equally rubbery-armed man in my life and together, we burned every dance floor in Sydney. And drank our weight in Jägerbombs on a weekly basis. Awesome at the time, terrible in retrospect.
After many months of continuing this full-time fun, we started feeling tired. Lethargic. Sleepy. Alex is already the healthiest man in the world (despite our penchant for Saturday night drinkies), and our decision to switch Jägerbombs for downward dogs and green tea was an easy one for him to embrace. For me, not so much.
Don’t get me wrong, I wasn’t some kind of an alco, I was just doing what pretty much every other 26-year-old chick does on a Saturday night. I’ve always lived a relatively healthy life, but the more I learned about eating well and the importance of proper nutrition, not just low-fat choices, the more I realised that when it came to actually knowing what was healthy, I was walking blind. I thought I had a great grasp on health. Primpers, I was wrong. Choosing low-fat milk and cheese does not the healthy person make.
To cut a very long story short, my road to becoming more nutritionally aware and healthy on the inside and out, is currently speeding along at rapid rates. And, after my recent trip to Asia, I made it my mission to complete a healthy juice cleanse this year as well as a 40-day Yoga Revolution.
So now, I’m here. Embarking on my first task, which sees me sipping on juice for the next 3-days. Compared to the 40 days of yoga, this is a breeze, and so far it’s coming along quite well.
See…

Here’s what I’m doing:
The Cleanse: The Urban Remedy Juice Cleanse is developed by Emma and Taryn, two chicks that clearly have a grasp on good living. Emma is a yoga teacher and nutritional & lifestyle coach, while Taryn is a certified nutritionist, personal trainer and mum. WINNERS! Together, they wanted to produce a cleanse that was simple, effective and didn’t require its cleansers to pop 2000 pills per day. Brilliant.
The Deets: The Urban Remedy Cleanse has three different levels. Level 1 is for the chicks who were like me a year ago. You know you need to treat your body better and now is the time. Level 2 is for chicks like me now, who do treat their bodies pretty well but want to boost their hard efforts to feel extra good. Level 3 is for the serious hardcores. It’s their most intense level of cleanse and not for the first timer. Think Arni, back in the day. I picked Level 2.
Within each level you then have the option of duration. The cleanses range from 1 day ($65), to 3 days ($195), to 5 days ($325), depending on how serious you are about pepping up your system (or in my case, how long you honestly think you can go without food). I personally thought that the 5-day cleanse was too much for me right now. I like the sound of it but know that I would miss my chicken salads and steamed fish too much. On the other hand, I thought 1 day just wasn’t enough. I wanted to challenge myself and didn’t think 1 day would really cut it for me. So, it was a level 2, 3-day stint for moi. Eeek!
How I’m feeling right now: I’m not going to lie, it’s not easy but right now, I’m honestly going OK. I’m not all that hungry and I think that’s because I’ve literally been sipping non-stop all day. You’re meant to have each juice 2-hours apart, but I’m sipping mine really slowly, so it takes about 30-40 minutes to actually finish one bottle. Then, I start on my herbal tea and repeat the process, so there’s never really a period where I’m not having something near my mouth.
I’m not a coffee or coke drinker at all. Well, I may have the occasional soy latte but I’m not a caffeine addict. I don’t smoke and have cut down those Jägerbombs to a glass or 2 of red a week (we’ve now gone the complete opposite direction and have turned into the mad Nanna and Pop. Still equally as fun though, I might add). So, I’m not sure if I’ll fall as hard as some of the other cleansers out there. I do however have a headache and have been to the toilet to pee approximately 10 times already today. That’s not an exaggeration. It’s true.
I am feeling a little tired, but then again, I’m always tired. I’m one of those people who wakes up tired (apparently it’s a lack of progesterone in my body) so I’m not sure if that’s anything to go by. I’ll keep you posted though. My moods are yet to get seriously gnarly but I have already apologised to the office and my boy for any upcoming moodiness that might be flung their way.
Anyway Primpers, I’m looking forward to seeing how this rolls out. I know by Day 3 I’ll be ready to eat my arm, but for now, I’m feeling strong. Wish me luck and stay tuned for Day 2’s review, plus, I’ll go into more detail about what the cleanse is meant to do, why we cleanse and the benefits involved.
In the meantime…
Have you ever done a juice cleanse?
What’s the longest you’ve gone?
Do you want to try one?

A cleanse like this isn’t for me but I admire your courage and energy going in to do one. Hopefully you’ll be feeling great by the end of it, 1 day down 2 to go! Good luck :)

Ohh it’s interesting to know that the juices contain more than just fruit and veg. I’d definitely consider doing this. My only worry is the lack of fibre.. but is that the point maybe?
Regardless, good luck Yas!

The segment on What’s Good for You tested the Lemon Detox Diet, where all you consume for 10 days is lemon water with maple syrup & pepper (with fancy names). Not good. Our cleanse was designed by a nutritionist & is healthy & balanced containing adequate good fat, protein & carbohydrates.

Cosmeticseller I’d agree with you if we only fed our bodies with organic, raw, whole foods. Most of us don’t so on occasions cleansing is recommended.
Urban Remedy juices have all that the body needs in the form of leafy greens, coconut milk, nuts and fructose.

Yas - I completed the cleanse 2 weeks ago but did the 5 day one. I really wish I had only done the 3 day as it was TOUGH lasting 5 days.
I have to say though that I felt fantastic at the end and felt much thinner!
Day 2 I was very cranky - haha!

sorry, NO WAY, NEVER! You do NOT need to “cleanse” your body, it does it itself. THis was shown on the show Whats Good for you under medical supervision, shown to be unnecessary. We already sweat, and poop out what needs to be gotten rid of.
